Letter After Regionals

Hello FCA Family,

A few months ago I asked you all to pray for me as I entered this outdoor track season with a torn labrum in my hip. As many of you may recall, this wasn’t the first injury in my career and most likely won’t be my last with how my body responds to elite level training. Two weeks ago I did the unthinkable I placed 6th in the Big 12 Championships and threw just 8 inches under the Olympic B Standard. Many of our medical and coaching staff sat there in disbelief as they watched. God performed a miracle that day and I was just lucky to be a tool that He used. I cannot tell you how many conversations I got to have about God’s role in my success after the meet! Talk about awesome! This is the real reason why I still compete.

But I sit here today writing you this e-mail from the NCAA Regional Championships in Austin, Texas. This is my first time I’ve been able to make it this far in a season. I had high hopes of qualifying for Nationals at this meet in the Shot Put and reach the Olympic B Standard and represent our country in the Trials. God apparently had a different plan. Due to outside circumstances that were beyond my control I didn’t qualify (there is still a few chances left though). I walked away knowing that my God is still good regardless of the outcome and that tomorrow is a new day. And that my friends, that is God’s grace. God gave me strength yesterday to qualify for Nationals in the Discus, my favorite event, that I haven’t been able to throw for 2 years due to shoulder surgeries.

Yesterday I got to talk about what God has done in my life and the support system (all of you) He has given me to make moments like this possible. So today I say thank you. Thank you for always checking in. Thank you for the encouragement along the way. Thank you for rejoicing with me. Thank you for being a shoulder to cry on. But most of all thank you for the prayers and giving me a second family. A family that has taught me to seek after my God in every circumstance and pursue Him as much as He has pursued me.
